Cancer Fighting Tips

Yes, Cancer can happen to anyone, it isn’t always because of genetics, a lot of times its because of what we eat and how we live our lives.  Lifestyle is a major contributor.   What we eat, whether we exercise, our environment, stress how we deal with it, the amount of sleep one gets all plays a role. What kind of diet can reduce the risk of getting cancer?    Diets that are whole food plant-based, that are anti-inflammatory, have lots of phytonutrients, and fiber.

About 80 % of cancer appear to be linked to the way people live their lives.  A person must return to a good diet and avoid various pollutants that are in our environment (these include chemicals in our cleaning supplies,  health and beauty products, pesticides on our foods).   Anger and hate must be replaced by cheerfulness, happiness and gratitude.

Tips

  1. Choose Whole foods- they are foods like fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, nuts and seeds.  These foods are not processed, have more nutrients and taste better, but the best part is they provide the body with the nourishment it needs.
  2. Eat lots of greens and cruciferous vegetables (broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, kale. Bok choy, collard greens) these fight inflammation and free radicals.
  3. Choose colorful foods- eat the colors of the rainbow.  And choose a wide variety.  The more color and the more variety the more nutrients available.
  4. Avoid highly processed foods, fried foods, foods high in sugar fat, salt, chemical preservatives, food colorings and food additives also meat, dairy products and eggs. These are highly inflammatory foods that don’t help the body avoid cancer or heal from cancer if you already have it.
  5. Exercise- not only helps you sleep better, but also helps reduce stress. Maintain or lose weight and improve your immune system. Aim for 30 minutes a day – walking is a great choice.  Flexibility exercises that help the body restore balance, endurance training that increases muscles strength, and aerobic exercise are all worth the effort.
  6. Sleep is when your body repairs itself. So, it’s important not to skimp on the amount of sleep you get each night. It’s best to get 7-9 hours of sleep a night.
  7. Get outside in the fresh air and sunlight.
  8. Take time to relax, read a book, listen to music, and take care of yourself.
  9. Manage your weight- excessive fat accumulation  will increase inflammation.  Cut out snacking, don't overeat, and eat slowly.

Decrease Cancer Deaths by Lifestyle

A study  by the American Cancer society shows that half of US cancer deaths result from modifiable risk factors such as smoking and excess weight.  These are risk factors that are considered controllable, including smoking, alcohol consumption, physical activity, being overweight, and exposure to ultraviolet radiation.

Smoking is the number 1 modifiable risk factor - it is reported that 20% of all cancer cases and close to 30% of deaths.  They found that next to smoking,

excess body weight and alcohol consumption, then UV radiation, in that order, had the most effect.

Exercise is a powerful- and pleasant way to reduce cancer risk.

Researchers examined the amount of red and processed meat, the number of fruits and vegetables, and the dietary fiber and calcium consumed.

Eating fewer ultra-processed foods and more whole foods can prevent cancer and excess weight.

Controlling what you can

Regaining power is vital. Here are some tips:

"Vote" with your pocketbook. If we stop buying the things that make us sick, food manufacturers will change their practices. Their goal is to make money.

Don't bring foods into your house that you really don't want to eat. "If it's in the house, you will eat it"

Still, enjoy life, you don't have to avoid all temptations or never socialize.  It's about creating habits that serve our desired outcome.

Be diligent and responsible about lifestyle choices based on what motivates you. If you want to live a long, healthy life, then choose foods that are whole-plant-based, which will give you the best chance of that happening. Also, drink lots of water, exercise, get outside in fresh air, eliminate stress, and eliminate toxic chemicals from your life.
